As Nujoud mentioned on her blog the other day, people in Texas have strange attitudes toward weight gain/loss. I have done pretty well losing pretty much all the weight I gained during my pregnancy (although I'm still stubbornly a size larger than I was). I've done this by thinking twice, or three times, before having a desert or fast food. I've done small things like trying to take the stairs instead of the elevator - need to get back on that horse. And I'm fairly pleased with how I've done so far, although I'd like to keep going on down another 10 pounds. 15 would be fantastic, but not very realistic.

People have noticed, and commented on how well I'm doing. The compliments are usually followed by the question "Are you doing anything special?" By this, people usually mean "Are you taking any pills?" Everybody just assumes I've found some miracle drug instead of eating better and trying to exercise (still need to get better at that part of the equation). You'd be amazed at how when I tell people that the "special" things I'm doing are climbing 2 flights of stairs to my office in the morning, they look like that's the worst idea they've ever heard. Climb stairs? I'd rather drink poison.

On the flip side of the coin, I feel like screaming at the ladies on the weight loss support thread babycenter who "feel so gross at 136 and can't wait to get back to 120". Are you kidding me? I haven't been 136 since I was a freshman in college. I can't even imagine it anymore.

Awww... what a nice hubby! :) I hear ya sister... I've still got some preggo-weight (and pre-preggo weight!) to lose. It's just hard to make time for exercising when all I want to do at the end of the day is get home to Lily.

Yep, that's it exactly. And Carina's too tired in the evenings to go out for walks. It's pretty much food, bath, bed.

Keep it up Jen on the small things you do. Us "crazy" non-Texas people will probably never adjust to the mentality I was blogging about the other day. As for getting better at the exercise part of it, two things to try. One join a group class or sport, sharing pain always makes it easier and it did for me. Second, set a goal. Just saying you are going to run more, usually won't do it. But if you go sign up for a 5k, 10k, half marathon or something, most people will stick with it better that way since no one wants to embarass themselves at the event with a poor showing.

That is so interesting. I always pictured Texas women as "high maintenance" (like in Arizona and California). But regardless, the "quick fix" mentality is there in all cases. Makes me appreciate the Northwest. Jen, this site will make you laugh: http://www.werealotlikeyou.com/

I think you look great! I had the hip spread too after Eva, sucks buying bigger clothes when you weigh the same as you used to... but I'd give it all up again for Eva in a heartbeat! :)

I hear ya sister. People ask me the same things. I now say, "I decided to get off my ass and not be fat anymore." That usually is followed my stunned silence. Taking the stairs is great. Every little bit helps. I look and feel fabulous at 160....bone structure I guess...
XOXO
