Himalaya Dreams

Some folks I know are in Nepal right now hiking toward Everest base camp. I really, really want to valley trek in the Himalayas someday. I'm not entirely sold on Everest base camp as the destination of my Himalayan trip. There are other parts of the range that require less effort to get to with as good or better views, and I sort of have the impression that base camp is not the most scenic due to the number of people that go through there every year. (Plus it's really high. I'm more about seeing many mountains that standing on one of them, with the attendant potential for altitude sickness.)

Still, I'm very jealous of the crowd that's there right now. Who would have thought that two years not leaving the country would leave me so antsy? When I graduated college, I'd only been to Canada and Mexico. Our trips to South America were supposed to scratch that itch before the arrival of Carina. Maybe the travel bug one of those things that scratching just makes worse.
