Please don't become BSG 1980

That's what I was repeating out loud 15 minutes from the mid-season finale when Jen and I watched it tonight. It was great, there's been a lot of stuff happening in the last few episodes as they begin to close up the series with half a season left.
Anyways, I'll post the rest in the comments. With spoilers.

(Okay, so you saw it too! Pretty cool. The episode where Apollo becomes president was troubling, it was one of the weakest BSG episodes I've seen in terms of how well they executed the story. But the two after it were awesome.
I loved the camera shot in the last episode, where the fleet jumps into orbit around Earth. And everyone's happy, and celebrating, and then they fly down to Earth...
"Don't become Battlestar Galactica 1980. Don't become Battlestar Galactica 1980. Don't become Battlestar Galactica 1980. Jen, you need to repeat this too. It's important."
"But I never saw Battlestar Galactica 1980."
"And that's a good thing. But trust me, you need to repeat this."
And Zeus picks up a handful of Earth, as the geiger counter clicks positive. The broken stares of our heroes as they stare out in disbelief at the truth of their destination for the past three years. Was that a wrecked tower of the Brooklyn Bridge at the very end? Not sure.
So as I sit after the episode completes, I wonder to myself. How did Starbuck bring about the Apocalypse on Earth? [Reference BSG:Razor.] Because I suspect she did it when she was gone for 2 months... here we were wondering if she would do it, and if someone could stop her, but maybe she already did it!
Anyways, we'll see where they go in the last few episodes. I was really glad to the old Baltar emerge while he was away from his followers. And him talking with the Cylon soldier was classic.)
Loved the episode!! I also never watched more than a couple of the 1980's cheesy BSG, but am a huge fan of this series. My question on this episode: is this earth in the future or earth in the past? We have some theories in the office about BSG becoming either the ancient grecian culture or the lost Atlantians which evovle to today. Or it could be earth in the future after we descendants of the 13th tribe annihilate each other in nuclear war.
hmmm... so much to ponder...and much too much time to do it. No more BSG until 2009!! I can't wait that long!
The very first season there were hints to the idea that "this has all happened before and will happen again"... i.e. they return to earth, advance, spread out, and eventually return to earth again, repeating the same events over and over (i.e. the original BSG was just another one of these "cycles").
I definitely have heard the theory of it being earth in the past and them becoming Atlantis or the Greek gods too.
I'm having trouble figuring out who the last cylon is. It being Starbuck just seems to obvious to me - like she's a red herring...
WAIT - That was the last episode until 2009??? I thought this was the last season. WTF!?
